How to Use Grilling Planks: A Beginner’s Guide.
If you’re wondering how to use grilling planks, you’re in the right place. Cooking on wood is nothing new, but we like to think we’ve perfected it. If you’re new to the world of grilling planks, we are here to make it easy. If this is the first time you’re hearing about cooking on little slices of wood, you’re in for a treat!

Honestly, grilling planks are a pretty niche product, so we can’t blame you for not being super familiar. What you might recognize them from are things like Cedar Planked Salmon, served hot right on the plank from your favorite restaurant, or maybe you’ve seen pre-packaged seafood at the store – wrapped right on the grilling plank for quick use! There is a reason professional chefs and seafood companies love using our products!

- Grilling planks are essentially thin milled pieces of wood, especially made to put food on and then cook directly on the grill. They come in different flavors and sizes!
- Grilling planks lock in moisture! Honestly it takes a lot of the guess work out of cooking protein. It’s a bit of a cheat code, we won’t tell!
- Grilling planks infuse a toasty, smoky flavor as the grill heats up the plank, essentially steaming in a wood flavor, then charring the wood and food a bit!
- Our grilling planks are completely natural, no chemicals or anything toxic involved. We are extremly picky about quality, and double, triple, quadruple check every single plank.
- We are super committed to sustainability and food safety, we actually own the wood mill, sourcing everything ourselves. We are a small, super efficient, and close knit team so nothing gets lost in the shuffle.
- There are a million ways you could use a grilling plank, but the steps are usually the same.

TRY IT – YOU’LL LIKE IT
Grilling planks might seem a little overwhelming at first, but honestly they couldn’t be simpler and you will have nothing to clean up at the end! Here are the basic steps:
- Choose your wood plank (classic Cedar is a great place to start).
- Soak it in water for 15 minutes (this will help lock in moisture and prevent it from catching fire).
- Choose and season your protein (we love a nice salmon fillet, you could go with a teriyaki marinade, slices of lemon & pepper, or really anything you like).
- Place the protein on the plank, covering as much of the plank as possible. Then set the whole thing on a hot grill.
- Close the lid, and let it cook. You can do quick checks here and there to make sure all is well.
- Remove the plank from the grill with tongs once your dish is cooked to your liking (it’s going to be really hot)!
- Serve directly on the plank to impress your friends, and to save on dishes!
